Paddle Into Summer: Kayak Rentals Return to Hudson on June 24

Looking for a different way to experience Hudson this summer?

Starting June 24, seasonal kayak and paddleboard rentals return to Jack Layton Park — offering a simple, scenic way to get out on the water and see the region from a new perspective.

Whether you’re planning a relaxed afternoon or a full day outdoors, it’s one of the easiest ways to add a little adventure to your visit.

Get Out on the Water

Located along the Ottawa River, Jack Layton Park is a natural starting point for a paddle. From here, you can explore calm waters, take in wide-open views, and enjoy a slower pace just minutes from the village.

Rentals available include:

  • Single kayaks
  • Double kayaks
  • Stand-up paddleboards (SUPs)

You can rent by the hour, in three-hour blocks, or for a full day — making it easy to tailor the experience to your schedule.

Who It’s For

This is an accessible activity for a wide range of visitors, whether you’re experienced or trying it for the first time.

  • Ages 16+ can rent independently
  • Children 10–14 can use a single kayak when accompanied by a parent
  • Children 4–9 can join a parent in a double kayak
  • Dogs are welcome, so you don’t have to leave them behind

All participants are required to complete a short waiver and health questionnaire before heading out.

What to Bring

A little preparation goes a long way toward making the most of your time on the water.

Recommended items:

  • Water shoes or sandals with straps
  • Comfortable clothing for paddling
  • A water bottle
  • Windbreaker or light layer
  • Swimsuit and change of clothes
  • Sunglasses with a strap
  • Hat and sunscreen
  • A waterproof bag for your belongings

Life jackets are included with all rentals.

Plan Ahead

While on-site rentals may be available (payment by Interac or cash), it’s best to reserve in advance and pay by credit card — especially on warm summer days when demand is high.

Make a Day of It

A paddle at Jack Layton Park pairs perfectly with a day in Hudson. Start on the water, then head into the village for lunch, a coffee, or an evening of live music.

It’s a simple combination — nature, fresh air, and local discovery — and one that captures what summer in Hudson is all about.

Opening June 24

Kayak and paddleboard rentals officially open for the season on June 24.

If you’re looking to slow down, try something new, or just enjoy the river, this is a great place to start.
